How to turn global trends into local prosperity How to turn global trends into local prosperity
The world is currently changing at an increasingly rapid pace, driven by six
“megatrends”: deepening globalization, large scale population trends, accelerating technological progress, the "Omni Consumer," the corporate social responsibility
imperative and growing political uncertainty. These trends are forcing companies to innovate and refine their fundamental business models. Investment promotion
agencies and economic development organizations must not only deal with all those changes, but also with more intense competition. To do so, they need to understand
their clients, environment and competitors, and respond effectively

Can E-Government Make Communities More Competitive? Can E-Government Make Communities More Competitive?
Is e-government as it is usually conceived enough? The most efficient, productive and accountable government is helpless to improve the lives of its citizens if the employers in that community are not creating and sustaining jobs. It is one of the major growth sectors on which our economy increasingly depends. It is a sector in which we have many relative strengths. Key themes from Building Britain’s Future – modern infrastructure, upgraded skills capabilities, converting research and innovation into market-beating products and services, and smarter more joined-up Government – are all themes that feature through The Digital Britain Report.

continues to rise sharply. The overview of this series, “How nations thrive in
the Information Age,” describes research findings where the world’s nations
occupy one of three tiers: the most advanced “Established Leaders,” the
heterogeneous middle tier of “Rapid Adopters” and the “Late Entrants”. 1 In this
paper, we highlight the opportunities for Rapid Adopter nations to become
more competitive in the world economy. Countries in this tier need to work
toward liberalizing their market regulation and implementing flexible labor
practices to enable faster ICT diffusion. Focus of ICT needs to move from
improving connectivity to increasing uptake of online services by citizens and
businesses.
