2020 Larissa

2020 Annual conference of Major Cities of Europe

The Mosaic of Digital Transformation

People, cities and technology: Do we know the big picture?

We are pleased to announce our 2020 annual conference that will take place for the first time in Greece. The Municipality of Larissa will partner with us to ensure the success of the event that will be hosted at the Art Gallery from May 27 to 29.

Digital Transformation is a journey in which most Local Governments are engaged by taking their own approach routes step by step. But all routes should lead to the composition of a Mosaic in which each single tile will be part of a coherent assembly and will create the desired overall design of Digital Transformation.

The conference will lead you through some of the key elements of the Mosaic and open the debate on the opportunities and challenges.

  • Digital Transformation – What benefits? What criteria to evaluate success and failure?
  • Local Government future: reality and vision
  • Leveraging data – Taking data driven decisions and governance
  • New models of IT provisioning
  • What role for IT in urban transformation – Are citizens considered? How to engage citizens in adopting technology?
  • IT and sustainable development: environmental, economic and social governance
  • Leadership and skills
  • Ethics in digital transformation – what the ‘right’ thing to do from an ethical perspective?
  • Disruptive technologies in cities– Accelerate the uptake? What cities really need?

What makes our annual conference different?

Our most recent annual conferences were hosted by the cities of Venice, Leipzig, Zagreb, Florence, Hamburg, Zurich, Ljubljana, Vienna, Prato and Berlin. Up to four hundred delegates from Europe and further afield join each year. All our conferences received unanimous excellent feedbacks from the delegates about the quality of the speakers and interest of the topics of the sessions.

The independent and non-commercial environment of this pan-European event represents a unique opportunity for participants to engage with their peers about innovation in Local Government. Due to the friendly and open atmosphere, the conference offers an excellent opportunity to engage in informal discussions during the conference round tables, world cafés, breaks, lunches and dinners, in order to share ideas, initiatives, experiences and learn from each other.
