Yogita Popat

Yogita is Assistant Director for Sustainability at Barnet Council, London’s second largest borough (both in terms of population and size), based in the north-west of the capital. Having only declared a Climate and Biodiveristy in May 2022, Barnet has picked up pace in their ambition to become one of London’s most sustainable boroughs and be a vocal climate leader.

With my background in data and insight, we have developed an evidence-based action plan, which means Barnet is prioritising the right things at the right time in order to achieve our target of becoming a net zero borough by 2042. We recognise this is a changing landscape and our delivery against our workstreams is agile but focussed.

Yogita is responsible for delivering all aspects of their Sustainability Action Plan, working closely with senior managers across the organisation to influence, enable and convene change across place. Earlier this year we launched our BarNET Zero campaign, asking residents, businesses and communities to join us on our journey. We also launched both an adults Citizen’s Assembly and Young People’s Assembly, receiving recommendations from 60 residents aged 12-90 years old.
